In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Wardlow like this:

Wardlow, township and vil., Bakewell and Hope pars., Derbyshire, 2 miles SE. of Tideswell, 643 ac., pop. 163; Wardlow Hay Cop (1227 ft.) is an eminence affording a fine view of Cressbrook Dale.
