In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Sedgwick like this:
Sedgwick, township and vil., Heveraham par., Westmorland, 3½ miles S. of Kendal, 495 ac., pop. 247; P.O., T.O.; near the vil. is Sedgwick House, seat.
