BROOMFIELD, a parish in Chelmsford district, Essex; on the river Chelmer, near the Eastern Counties railway, 2 miles N of Chelmsford. It has a post office under Chelmsford. Acres, 2,215. Real property, £5,524. Pop., 849. Houses, 179. The property is much subdivided. Bromfield Lodge is a chief residence. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Rochester. Value, £224.* Patron, the Bishop of Rochester. The church is a spacious building, with a large round tower. Charities, £25.
