In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Hacheston like this:
HACHESTON, a village and a parish in Plomesgate district, Suffolk. The village stands near the river Alde and the Framlingham railway, 1 mile NW of Marlesford r. station, and 2 N of Wickham Market; and has a postoffice under Wickham Market, and a fair on 12 Nov. The parish includes also the hamlet of Glevering. Acres, 1, 726. Real property, £3, 264. Pop., 526. Houses, 116. Roman pottery has been found. The living is a vicarage, annexed to the vicarage of Parham, in the diocese of Norwich. The church is ancient, and has a square tower. Charities, £44.
