In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Brackley like this:

Brackley, market town with ry. sta., S. Northamptonshire, on river Ouse, 7 miles NW. of Buckingham, pop. 2504; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Wednesday; has mfrs. of boots and shoes. B. is an ancient town, and was a parl. bor. till 1832.
