In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Tunstall like this:
TUNSTALL, a parish, with T. village and Dunningworth hamlet, in Plomesgate district, Suffolk; 2¼ miles ESE of Wickham-Market-Junction r. station. It has a post-office under Wickham-Market. Acres, 2,863. Real property, £3,772. Pop., 701. Houses, 168. The property is divided among three. There are clay and sandpits. The living is a double rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £352.* Patron, F. Hayward, Esq. The church is good; and there is a parochial school.
