In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Yelvertoft like this:
YELVERTOFT, a parish, with a village, in the district of Rugby and county of Northampton; on the Grand Union canal, 2½ miles S of Stanford-Hall r. station, and 7 E of Rugby. It has a post-office under Rugby. Acres, 2,080. Real property, £5,083. Pop., 631. Houses, 166. The land is chiefly pasture. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough. Value, £487.* Patron, the Earl of Craven. The church is good; and there are an Independent chapel, a free school, and town land s £15.
