In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Brownhills like this:
BROWNHILL, a locality in the south of Staffordshire; on the Birmingham and Derby railway, near Cannock Chase, 5¼ miles NNE of Walsall. It has a station on the railway, and a post office‡ under Walsall.
Brownhills is now part of WALSALL District. Click here for graphs and data of how WALSALL has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Brownhills itself, go to Statistics.
