In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Tughall like this:
TUGHALL, a township in Bambrough parish, Northumberland; 9 miles N by E of Alnwick. Acres, 1,799. Pop., 109. Houses, 19. Ruins are here of a church which was connected with Lindisfarne priory.
