Notes

Youngs' indicates this unit was created from the union of two earlier ancient parishes in 1850. However, the 1801 Census lists just a single entry for Whittlesey as a town in the Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire, (Enumeration Abstract I, p26) whilst in the 1831 Census (Enumeration Abstract I, p42) both names are given as "united parishes" under a single entry. The VCH for Cambridgeshire (vol. 4, pp.123-135) says there was "an Act of 1850, which confirmed the union of the two parishes for civil purposes" indicating the Act recognised an existing union. The same VCH pages also quotes the Lyson brothers writing in 1808 "that the boundaries of the two parishes could not then be ascertained". Therefore the unit creation date has been altered to reflect this.
