Notes

Youngs' identifies the ancient parish of Mappleton, containing Mappleton and Rowlston township which became a separate CP in 1866. He does not distinguish between the two hamlets, but in the Census listings the figures are given separately for both between 1851-1881, whilst in 1891-1911 they are listed as a single unit. An 1891 footnote states "Mappleton and Rowlston together form one civil parish". Therefore a "hamlet" status unit has been created for the earlier listings which were part of the Township/CP unit.
