This parish is liable to be confused with the BROAD HINTON which was a liberty within the parish of HURST, Berkshire. Despite being east of Reading, the latter unit was part of Wiltshire until 1844 due to it belonging to the Earls of Salisbury. See the VCH article for Hurst for more details.
