Notes

Up to 1871, the census provides data for a number of distinct parts of Swansea parish, including 'Swansea Higher' and 'Swansea Lower' separately. In 1881 and 1891, these two are replaced by a single area, 'Swansea Higher and Lower'. From 1901 onwards, data are listed for a single parish corresponding to the County Borough.
