This website exists to help people doing personal research projects on particular areas within a locality. From 1961 the census has gathered data on whether households owned or rented their homes, and if rented whom from. Here we present a simple classification which is possible for all dates. It is based on counts of households, rather than of persons within households. Note that, because of how the 1971 Census reported tenure, housing rented from Housing Associations has to be included with private rentals, separately from "council housing".
