The Ministry of Labour's Labour Gazette provided monthly statistics on the number of people unemployed in selected towns and 'districts', from 1945 onwards (although the Ministry and the Gazette changed their names periodically). Unfortunately the number of persons insured was not included in the same reports, so it is not easy to compute rates.
