In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tannadice like this:
Tannadice, par. and vil., Forfarshire - par., 21,328 ac., pop. 1254; vil., on river South Esk, 7 miles N. of Forfar; P.O.; Tannadice House, seat, is 1 mile SE.
