Up to 1881 census data for Kidwelly was listed for two separate parts, 'St. Mary Within' and 'St. Mary Without'. Their exact status is unclear. Although they are described as 'Civil Parishes' at their amalgamation to form Kidwelly St Mary CP in 1884, the 1841 census notes that they separately supported their own poor whilst Richards' simply lists a single parish of Kidwelly. Therefore they have been identified as parts of an ancient parish of Kidwelly and CPs until 1884 when a new separate CP of Kidwelly St Mary was formed.
