Notes

Originally this unit had a Small Burgh status in the AUO for 1930-1975 based on the Scan gazetteer. However, subsequent comparison with the 1931 and later Census of Population tables, administrative boundary maps and the Local Government (Scotland) Act, 1947 (which lists all small burghs existing at that date) have no mention of a burgh called either Aboyne or Charleston in Aberdeenshire. The status therefore has been removed.
